Douglas Southgate specializes in the study of global agricultural issues as well as environmental problems in developing countries. He has written numerous books, journal articles, and scholarly papers on trends in the food economy, public policies contributing to tropical deforestation, and related topics. Along with Douglas Graham and Luther Tweeten, Southgate wrote The World Food Economy, which Blackwell Publishing released in 2007. A fluent Spanish speaker, he has worked in 14 Latin American countries as well as Tanzania. The coordinator of the undergraduate program for the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics (AEDE), Southgate teaches a number of AEDE courses as well as several offerings in International Studies. Southgate has directed Ohio State’s Latin American Studies Program and has served on the Tropical Ecosystems Directorate of the U.S. Man and Biosphere Program. |
