Jim Webster writes about food and farm policy. Based in Washington since 1970, he has made a particular focus on the dairy industry as a government official and a journalist. He was a U.S. Senate staff member and an assistant secretary of agriculture in the 1970s. From 1981 through 2007, he published several food and agricultural newsletters, including Dairy Industry Newsletter. He now writes the weekly Washington Update for eDairy and covers the U.S. for the internationally circulated Dairy Markets letter, published in England. In the early 1990s, he was vice president for communications in the Washington office of Sparks Companies, now known as Informa Economics. He has addressed farm and agribusiness groups in the U.S., Europe and Asia and has traveled to Latin America, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union.
